KABUL, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Afghan forces during a well-coordinated operation in the eastern Kapisa province have killed two senior Taliban commanders including Nasim Mashfiq, the shadow governor for the restive province, on Monday, deputy to provincial police chief Mohammad Hakim Azimi said.
"Acting upon intelligence reports, the security forces backed by aircrafts targeted a Taliban hideout in Badarab area of Tagab district today morning, killing Nasim Mashfiq, the rebels' shadow governor for Kapisa province, and Qari Ahsanullah, the shadow district chief for Tagab district," Azimi told Xinhua.
Several more militants sustained injuries in the operations, the official said.
Both the killed men were notorious leaders of the insurgents in Kapisa and their death could prove a major setback to the Taliban outfit, the official added.
Taliban militants haven't made any comment yet.
